Company
Our client is a private equity-owned OEM supplier of metal and plastic components for the automotive, heavy equipment, recreational boating, and consumer products industries. Since its founding in 2017, the company has experienced rapid growth and currently employs over 500 people. It owns and operates manufacturing facilities across multiple states, with its largest facility being a 300,000-square-foot plant in Joplin, MO.
Position
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for sourcing and acquiring materials and services for the company, while also ensuring quality standards, optimizing costs, and maintaining a reliable supply chain. Specific responsibilities include:
- Facilitates the acquisition of company supplies and equipment and ensures that vital inventory is kept in stock.
- Create and maintain meaningful liaisons with vendors.
- Work with operations and production teams to determine the amount and type of materials needed and ensure they are delivered timely.
- Oversee and run electronic and physical inventory regularly.
- Manage procurement costs by performing spend analysis for assigned material commodity groups, MRO and consumable supplies. Perform competitive quote analysis to find cost, lead time or inventory reduction opportunities.
- Arrange meetings with vendors and confer with them to provide them with requirements.
- Maintain purchase order systems in place.
- Monitor all purchase concerns and report discrepancies to vendors.
- Ensure purchasing records are legible and organized.
- Assist management by evaluating formal bids and making recommendations for awarding contracts.
- Assist with various plant functions such as audits, equipment receiving and shipment tracking coming and going.
- Utilize a variety of computer programs to create and maintain purchasing log.
- Utilize and keep up to date on ERP system and processes.
- Identify and execute sourcing opportunities to reduce inventory levels such as consigned inventories.
- Monitor and manage supplier performance, taking action when orders are past due and seeking alternate sources when suppliers fail to meet production needs or impact production schedules due to delivery or quality performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing required
- Experience working in a manufacturing facility strongly preferred
- Must be self-sufficient with the ability to work unsupervised.
- Must be able to work on-site in an office / manufacturing environment.
Requirements
- Personally accountable for preventing injury and illness to self and for protecting company assets.
- Following plant safety rules is mandatory.
- Every injury sustained or even suspected while on the job must be reported immediately to your direct supervisor.
- Be familiar with all chemicals used in your assigned area and understand any injury or health problem potential inherent in the use or handling of such chemicals.
- Know the location, use and purpose of all safety equipment in your work area.
- All emergency equipment, fire doors and emergency exit routes are to be kept unobstructed and in good condition.
- Adhere to personal protection guidelines set forth by the company.
- Maintain a sense of orderliness, keeping materials, supplies and equipment well organized and in good condition.
- Ensure work area is clean and free from safety hazards.
- All guards must be in place prior to the routine operation of any equipment and must be inspected daily.
- Complete required tasks, quotas, and assignments prior to or within deadlines given.
