About us

Working at National Addiction Specialists (NAS)

Founded in 2019, NAS is a telehealth clinic offering long-term support and treatment for substance use disorders. Collaborating across medical, behavioral, and psychosocial dimensions, NAS's dedicated Care Teams deliver evidence-based care and help participants work toward their individual goals.

Our mission

  • Based in science:  NAS care teams provide comprehensive, evidence-based treatment that is tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals. NAS teams also help manage co-occurring conditions, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Grounded in empathy:  We provide unconditional support rooted in harm reduction and trauma-informed care. Patients, addiction counselors, and caregivers make important decisions together. NAS focuses on long-term health, happiness, and wellness by addressing non-clinical goals like safe housing, employment, parenting, and financial security just as much as clinical outcomes.
  • Breaking down barriers:  We're reaching both urban and rural communities of the country, where more than 80% of people have little to no access to buprenorphine (Suboxone) prescribers. NAS provides low-threshold care that is inclusive, empowering, and heavily influenced by participants' stated preferences and goals. Wherever our patients wish to go, we're grateful to go there together.

About the role

  • The  Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) works directly with patients to deliver medication-assisted recovery for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and empowers patients in their recovery journeys in coordination with the Care Team (primarily Care Advocates and Addiction Counselors).
  • This is a high-impact, patient-facing role, which involves delivering compassionate and empathetic telephonic, text-based, and video-based (telehealth) patient engagement and monitoring, assisted by NAS clinical decision support tools and platforms.
  • As NAS's model is built on telemedicine, this role is unique in the autonomy and convenience that it offers compared to other midlevel provider positions. You will have the opportunity to work from your own home and maintain flexible hours.
  • Make a difference. The devastating impact of the opioid crisis, “war on drugs,” and care gaps for the underserved are at the forefront now more than any time in US history. By bringing care to more people, we are changing and saving lives.
  • Build your career with talented peers. NAS brings together a diverse team of expert clinicians and counselors aligned under a common mission. NAS's clinical teams are some of the leading voices in addiction medicine and industry transformation.
  • Grow with us.  According to White House estimates, the opioid crisis cost the US $500 billion in 2015. A member with untreated opioid use disorder (OUD) drives 550% greater healthcare costs to payers than the average member (UHC analysis, 2019). NAS partners with leading commercial and Medicaid health plans to bring better experiences and effective services to their members, significantly reducing costs and sharing in the economic savings we create.

Success in this role

  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage ongoing support for individuals suffering from complex substance use disorders (SUDs) and related comorbidities.
  • Elicit the patient’s goals for their recovery and help them in achieving these goals over time through a therapeutic alliance.
  • Educate patients on SUDs and related comorbidities, recovery strategies, and safe use where necessary.
  • Coordinate with Medical Directors to develop and oversee treatment plans, adjusting them as needed.
  • Provide patient care coverage during some nonstandard hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Effectively use technology to maximize the patient experience.
  • Interpret and share lab results with patients, without judgement, in order to help them meet their goals and stay safe.
  • Enable care coordination, connecting patients to clinical resources outside NAS through referrals where necessary, working with Counselors and Care advocates to help patients access social resources and navigate the healthcare system.

Requirements for the role

  • PMHNP certification.
  • Licensed to practice in state of Tennessee.
  • Licensed to practice in FL, NC, TX, and VA are a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Active non-restricted DEA license.
  • Ideally bring experience managing SUDs through medication assisted recovery.
  • Degree from an accredited school of nursing and a graduate-level nurse practitioner program.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and video conferencing.
  • Must the ability to gain approval for multiple state licenses and insurance company contracts (no significant legal or credentialing barriers/sanctions).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; outstanding communication and collaboration.
  • Able to learn new technologies quickly.

If you are a qualified person with a passion for what we do, please apply!
