An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States.Qualifications:Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in preservation engineering OR MA/MS Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related technical disciplineIn coordination with HPS and park technical staff, a thorough knowledge of historic building design and construction, as well as material degradation and structural destabilization and failure is required to provide guidance related to complex historic preservation issues and treatments that is in accordance with relevant laws, policies and standards. Work typical to this position includes, but is not limited to, the completion of structural assessments and analyses for historic properties, development of treatment recommendations that address structural deficiencies, analysis of existing designs and recommendations to determine accuracy of information and feasibility of implementation, assistance with sequencing and scoping of projects (including cost estimates), and implementation of preservation actions aimed at improving resource conditions.Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe AcrobatAdobe CS (preferred, not required), AutoCAD (preferred, not required)Duties:Projects will be conducted on an ?as-needed? basis in response to technical assistance requests from individual parks and needs identified by program leadership.Provide engineering expertise relevant to traditional building construction means, methods, and materials during inspections of historic structures in parks to assess their physical condition and determine likely causes of deterioration.30%Develop recommendations, and where applicable, perform treatments that will address deficiencies and help to assure the long-term preservation of historic resources that are professionally sound, compatible, culturally sensitive, and meet the Secretary of the Interior?s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.30%Assist in the development of project SOW and cost estimates related to the execution of historic preservation activities on critical resources throughout the Intermountain Region.30%Other tasks, as assigned.10%Other:Overnight travel: Periodic 2-3 night site visitsAir travel anticipated: Rarely. 2-3 trips per performance periodHealth and Safety Considerations: Guidance and training will be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary.Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.Physical requirements: Ability to work in varied and extreme environments, hike or walk in rugged terrain, and work in confined spaces.
