  • Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation
  • Atlanta, GA

Job Description

A renowned entrepreneur and co-founder of The Home Depot, Arthur M. Blank is now recognized for his values-based Blank Family of Businesses and as one of America's leading philanthropists through The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. All of his industry-leading businesses and the Blank Family Foundation operate on six core values: Put People First, Listen and Respond, Include Everyone, Innovate Continuously, Lead by Example, Give Back to Others.

After 25 years and more than $950 million in giving as of August 2022, the Blank Family Foundation has committed to significantly escalating the impact of its philanthropy over the next 10+ years. This milestone coincides with deeper participation among the next generation of Blank family members on the board and in advisory capacities, partnering around their shared core beliefs, including the Jewish value of tikkun olam ("heal and repair the world"), and seeking a fuller realization of American ideals.

The foundation works across several different programmatic areas, including Youth Development, Democracy, Environment, Atlanta's Westside, Mental Health and Well Being. The foundation also manages a large portfolio of founder-led initiatives and associate-led giving committees that operate across the Blank Family of Businesses. Geographically, much of the foundation's work prioritizes Georgia (with a focus on Atlanta) and Montana, while also considering the potential for greater national impact and influence. To complement and amplify the impact of these giving areas, the foundation has two central functions whose teams partner with programmatic colleagues. These functions include Communications and Effective Philanthropy.

This position will support two giving areas, the Environment as well as Mental Health and Well Being.

Position Description Summary:
As a key member of the foundation team, the Administrative & Program Associate will provide essential administrative, grants management and organizational support to the foundation leadership team. The Administrative & Program Associate will support two Managing Directors and their respective bodies of work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead all administrative functions for both Managing Directors, including scheduling, travel arrangements and external correspondence where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with peer Associates to assure the foundation has a well-functioning set of business processes, meetings, and internal communication routines.
  • Handle the set up of consultant agreements and process invoices, demonstrating efficient use of workflows for contracts, invoices, and timely payment.
  • Organize internal and external meetings, conferences, grantee convenings and other special events.
  • Facilitate efficient grant making by managing internal workflows and maintaining regular, timely communication with grantees.
  • Support effective grants management by ensuring timely receipt and handling of submitted proposals, concept papers and other materials; create and maintain up-to-date grant files; draft correspondence and reports; and support ongoing communication with grantees.
  • Learn and effectively use the foundation's grants management system (Cybergrants).
  • Support the writing and finalization of key documents for the team, grantees and the board.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • A strong desire to contribute to the mission of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation
  • Bachelor's degree or a background that provides equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 5-7 years' work experience related to the role, i.e., experience in a program assistant, program associate, administrative assistant or executive assistant role
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent administrative and computer skills, proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with individuals and teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to act with discretion when handling confidential information
  • Ability to master applicable company IT systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Humility, flexibility, self-awareness, accessibility, curiosity, a sense of humor, and the ability to work with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to act independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in philanthropy or other grantmaking entities, a plus
